ELCA New Congregations – Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

Today, many people in the United States, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands face life’s challenges without hearing the words of God’s love and forgiveness. The ELCA has an important message to share, and people are ready to hear it – you are welcome here. We share the love of Christ by extending our welcome through new congregations and communities of faith and by supporting our congregations as centers of growth for the gospel mission.

Through ELCA New Congregations, we use innovative models to start new congregations: reaching areas experiencing rapid population growth, connecting to changing communities, and engaging diverse socio-economic groups, ethnic and multicultural communities, as well as emerging young populations. There are 340 new ELCA ministries being developed in the United States and the Caribbean through the work of 65 Synodal Mission Tables comprised of local leaders, evangelistic mission directors, and bishops.

As we seek to grow God’s church and welcome all of God’s people, we worship in pews, city parks, beer halls and libraries; we break bread in homes and in shelters, and we equip our neighbors with spiritual and physical nourishment. With our hands, we do God’s work of restoring and reconciling communities in the name of God.
