Theodore H. Loy Obituary – Rockford Register Star

Theodore H. Loy, 83, joined Jesus on June 9, 2022. He was residing with his wife, Donna, at Heritage Health, Bloomington, Illinois.

Ted was born in Rockford, IL on November 11, 1938 to Herbert and Alma Loy. After graduating from Rockford West High School in 1956, he attended Wheaton College and later attended Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity and, more importantly, met his first wife, Elaine. , a fellow seminarian, whom he married. on April 17, 1965. In school, he excelled in academics while enthusiastically pursuing activities such as choirs, acting, athletics, and Jr. ROTC. He enjoyed singing, classical music, reading, studying and teaching the Bible, writing, and spending time with his family and friends. He was well known for his sense of humor, especially his “dad” jokes, for his love of taking pictures at every opportunity, and for his letters to the editor published in the local newspaper.

Ted loved God and loved people and pastored various churches before leaving for the mission field in Venezuela where he and his family served for 13 years. After their return from Venezuela, Ted continued his ministry as Acting Pastor at Maywood EFC in Rockford and as Pastor of the Free Evangelical Church in Bloomington, IL. After his beloved Elaine died in 1990, Ted started working at State Farm and remained there until his retirement. He met Donna Bautista at a Wheaton College alumni event and they eventually got married. Together they traveled to Israel and Scandinavia, two places on Ted’s to-do list, and enjoyed walking, visiting family and friends, and spending time with other Wheaton alumni. at Honey Rock Camp in Wisconsin.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Elaine (Bailey) Loy; his parents; and a younger brother who died in infancy.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Loy; his siblings, Joanne Anderson (John) and Dean Loy; four children, Laura Bryant (Mark), Linnea Anderson (Steve), Andrew Loy (Sarah), and Linda Wrezinski (Tyler); and Donna’s three children, Vashni Seitzer (Steve), Jehoash Bautista (Tonya) and Jathniel Bautista (Kate). Ted and Donna shared sixteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A service honoring Ted’s life will be held August 27 at 1:30 p.m. at Bloomington Evangelical Free Church, 2910 E. Lincoln St., Bloomington, IL. All are welcome.
